Drive replacement

In the event a pool’s drive becomes faulted, it is necessary to replace it with a new, healthy one.

To identify a faulted drive, navigate to the Pool Management page. The pool status will show DEGRADED, indicating a faulted drive.

Locating a drive

To toggle the identify LED on a physical drive, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Rack View page.

  2. Click on the desired drive.

  3. On the side panel, toggle the Identify LED switch to enabled.

Replace a faulted drive

To replace a faulted drive, follow the steps below:

  1. Identify the faulted drive’s serial number.

  2. Locate the drive in the system.

  3. Remove the faulted drive from the system.

  4. Put a new drive where the faulted one was removed.

  5. Navigate to the pool with the faulted drive.

  6. Click Replace on the Notable Drives card. This will open the Replace Wizard dialog.

  7. Select one of the available drives under the Select Available Drive section.

  8. Compare the Existing Drive to the New Drive to ensure the best match is being used.

  9. Click Replace to finalize the replacement.

Utilize a hot spare

When a drive fails, the pool will appoint an available hot spare to take the faulted drive’s position.

To permanently replace the faulted drive with the Hot Spare, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the pool.

  2. Click Use spare as permanent replacement, located on the Notable Drives card.

  3. Click Yes on the confirmation dialog.

  4. Remove the faulted drive from the system.

  5. Put a new drive where the faulted one was removed.

  6. Configure the newly added drive as the new hot spare.
