Snapshots

The Dataset Snapshots feature manages snapshots through clone, hold, expiration, and destroy operations.

Individual snapshot operations

View snapshots

To view a list of all the snapshots of a specific filesystem, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

Clone a snapshot

To clone a snapshot, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

  4. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired snapshot.

  5. Select Clone.

  6. Click Clone to confirm.

Destroy a snapshot

To destroy a snapshot, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

  4. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired snapshot.

  5. Select Destroy Snapshot.

  6. Type "destroy snapshot" in the confirmation text input.

  7. Click Destroy to confirm.

Hold a snapshot

To set a hold on a snapshot, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

  4. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired snapshot.

  5. Select Add Hold.

  6. Configure the hold by providing a name, extending the expiration, or both:

    1. To create a manual hold, enter a name. This hold will not expire unless specified.

    2. To extend the expiration of a snapshot, specify the desired expiration time. The hold will be released automatically. You can also provide a name for easier identification.

  7. Click Hold to confirm.

Set a snapshot expiration

To set an expiration date for a snapshot, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

  4. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired snapshot.

  5. Select Set Expiration.

  6. Choose which snapshots are affected: Local and replica, Local only, or Replica only.

  7. Specify a time for the snapshot to expire.

  8. Click the Set Expiration to confirm.

Bulk updates

Bulk updates are applied to all snapshots on the chosen dataset; there are four operations available: holding, expiring, destroying, and releasing.

Navigate to Bulk Update

  1. Navigate to the Dataset Snapshots - Coverage page.

  2. Click the action cog (Gear) next to the desired filesystem.

  3. Select Open Snapshots.

  4. Click the Bulk Update dropdown, located at the bottom right of the Snapshot Overview section.

Hold dataset snapshots

  1. Navigate to Bulk Update.

  2. Select Add Holds from the dropdown menu.

  3. Configure the hold by providing a name, extending the expiration, or both:

    1. To create a manual hold, enter a name. This hold will not expire unless specified.

    2. To extend the expiration of a snapshot, specify the desired expiration time. The hold will be released automatically. You can also provide a name for easier identification.

  4. Click Bulk Hold.

Expire dataset snapshots

  1. Navigate to Bulk Update.

  2. Select Set Expiration from the dropdown menu.

  3. Choose which snapshots are affected: Local and replica, Local only, or Replica only.

  4. Specify a time for the snapshots to expire.

  5. Click Bulk Set Expiration.

Destroy dataset snapshots

  1. Navigate to Bulk Update.

  2. Select Destroy from the dropdown menu.

  3. Enter the prompted text into the Confirmation field.

  4. Click Destroy.

Release dataset snapshots

  1. Navigate to Bulk Update.

  2. Select Release Holds from the dropdown menu.

  3. Check the boxes beside the desired holds to release.

  4. Click Release.
