iSCSI

BrickStor SP leverages iSCSI software initiator in order to create Pools using the iSCSI LUN(s). When configuring LUN(s) ensure the vendor’s SAN is configured using Multipath I/O (MPIO) and Asymmetric Logical Unit Access (ALUA) for the optimal availability and performance.

Adding iSCSI target

Before LUN(s) can be added to a Pool, BrickStor SP needs to be connected to the vendor’s SAN by adding an iSCSI Target connection. Follow the steps below to get started.

Once the iSCSI Target is added, the LUN(s) can be used to create a new storage Pool.

Automatic discovery

Using Automatic Discovery the BrickStor SP will use the sendtargets method to automatically discover the iSCSI Target (if supported by the vendor’s SAN).

  1. Navigate to the iSCSI Connections page.

  2. Click Add Target. This will open the Discover iSCSI Target dialog.

  3. Note the Initiator Name and create a LUN on the vendor’s SAN for this initiator IQN.

  4. Select Automatic discovery from system for the Connection Type.

  5. Enter the vendor’s SAN IP discovery IPv4 address for the Discover Target(s) From field.

  6. Click Discover Target.

Static target

  1. Navigate to the iSCSI Connections page.

  2. Click Add Target. This will open the Discover iSCSI Target dialog.

  3. Note the Initiator Name and create a LUN on the vendor’s SAN for this initiator IQN.

  4. Select Manual configuration for the Connection Type.

  5. Enter the vendor’s SAN Target Name using iqn., eqn., or wwn. format.

  6. Enter one or more vendor’s SAN IPv4 addresses for this iSCSI target connection using the Target IP Addresses field.

  7. Click Add Target.
