About Data Protection

Data Protection is a feature that provides data availability by managing and automatically creating data snapshots. Snapshots are immutable read-only instances of a filesystem or volume at a given time, used to recover data. They can also be replicated to another pool on the same appliance and/or another BrickStor SP appliance.

Snapshots can be cloned nearly instantaneously into a writable copy of the original filesystem/volume. Clones share all their disk space with the original snapshot. This means that initially, clones consume no additional disk space. See clones for more details.
