Expanding Pools There are two methods by which the raw capacity of the pool may be expanded. Immediate expansion is achieved by creating new disk-groups in the pool with available drives. Eventual expansion is achieved by replacing all drives in the pool with an equal amount of larger capacity drives. Once all drives have been replaced with larger capacity drives, grow the pool. Expand Data To add more VDEVs to the selected pool: Navigate to the desired pool. Select Expand data in the Available Drives Detected Card. Select a Drive Type. Enter a VDEV Count. Enter the number of Drives per VDEV. Enter the number of Spare Drives. Click Expand data to confirm. Growing a Pool Growing a pool is a Hub action that expands the usable storage of a given pool to take advantage of the increased raw capacity. This action becomes available when one of the following events occur: BrickStor SP is a virtual machine and virtual disk size is increased. The pool uses an iSCSI or FibreChannel LUN(s) and the LUN size is increased on the underlying SAN solution. The pool is composed of physical drives and are replaced with a ones of higher capacity. To grow the pool: Navigate to the desired pool. Click the Expand to utilize drive capacity button located in the Available Drives Detected card. Using Larger Drives Drives can be replaced with higher capacity drives to increase the space available on a given pool. All drives must be replaced with drives of equal capacity. Select the information icon of the drive. Click Replace under Advanced Actions. Click Show All. Select a new drive to replace the old drive. Click Replace to finalize the replacement. Grow the pool
