Storage Settings Dataset storage settings allow configuring things like quotas and reservations as well as choosing a Storage Profile. Storage profiles defines a number of settings optimized for a particular kind of workload. Each storage profile also has an associated Data Protection configuration. Storage Profiles BrickStor SP provides predefined set of storage profiles optimizing dataset configuration for a particular workload. It also provides recommended Data Protection configurations for that particular profile. Some settings can be overridden or a new, custom storage profile can be created. Here are some of the common storage profiles: General File System - optimized for general SMB/NFS/S3 workloads. VMware Virtual Machines - optimized for VMware virtual machine workloads. Hyper-V Virtual Machines - optimized for Hyper-V virtual machine workloads. Streaming Media File System - optimized for video streaming workloads. Custom File System - allows for creating a custom storage profile optimizing it for a specific application. Quotas Quotas are a way to limit the amount of storage that can be used by a dataset and its descendants. If no quota is configure, the dataset will inherit the quota from its parent. There are two types of quotas: Data Quota - limits the file system space without accounting for disk space consumed by snapshots and clones. Quota - limits the file system space including snapshots and clones. If you are not sure which quota to use, use the Data Quota. Reservations Reservation is an guaranteed allocation of disk space from the pool to a given dataset. The total amount of all reservations cannot exceed the amount of unused disk space in the pool. There are two types of reservations: Data Reservation - reserves the file system space without accounting for disk space consumed by snapshots and clones. Reservation - reserves the file system space including snapshots and clones. If you are not sure which quota to use, use the Data Reservation.
